Description: Perennial herb or suffrutex, to c. 60 cm tall, stems branching near the base, sparsely hairy, glabrescent, striate. Leaves grey green, glaucous, slightly succulent, oblanceolate (rarely elliptic), sparsely to densely pubescent with long white, multicelled trichomes, especially on younger leaves and/or on ventral surfaces, 30–83 × 5–19 mm (at widest point), minutely or conspicuously dentate mainly on upper half of leaf, sessile, apex acute to obtuse; base narrow, clasping stem slightly; margins entire or sharply dentate, mainly in the distal part. Capitula solitary, discoid, homogamous, campanulate, 12–20 mm in diameter (across involucral bract apices when pressed), peduncles 140–240 mm long, purplish, glabrous to rarely very sparsely hairy; involucral bracts 8, 9 or 10, glabrous, 8–11× 2–5 mm, grey-green with pale narrow margins. Disc florets white, 45–70 per capitulum, corolla with narrow tube then widening, 7–9 mm long, corolla lobes 1.1–1.7 mm long, glandular papillate, tube half or almost half length of corolla (3.5–4.5 mm long). Stamens: anthers c. 3 mm long with very acute appendages (c. 0.5 mm long), base rounded to minutely caudate, filament collars balusterform; style branches 0.6–1 mm long, apex truncate, slightly penicillate with central tuft of sweeping hairs, fringed with papillae. Cypselas cylindrical to oblong, 4.5– 6.0 mm long, light or dark brown, with four rows of white duplex hairs along ribs. Pappus white, with scabrid bristles, 6–8 mm long.
