Description: | "On stems at base of, or up to 1 cm below attachment, some or all leaf-whorls [have] a whorl of (2-) 4 rigid pungent spines to 1.6 cm long, sometimes also with additional smaller spines below these... The peculiar spines on the stems just below the leaf-base, which are shared with B. meyeri, are not found elsewhere in Blepharis. ...in B. meyeri these spines are much smaller and much less regular."
